Greek festival is an absolute steal…provides you with the opportunity to enjoy the day…tasting gyros or the souvlaki and pastries. You can buy your favorites in bulk to take home and enjoy when the festival is over. Or before you leave, whichever you prefer.
I’m an advocate in eating healthy foods even though at times it might not seem like I do. I recently purchased Breville Panini Press and loving it. This is so sturdy and the grill is the perfect size…not too big or small…just perfect size without overcrowding your kitchen with another appliance. I have grilled eggplant, sweet potato, and steak.
I’ve been busy preparing for the family get together which is only 4 days away. I just finished making Spicy Smoked Sarachi Aioli sauce for Christmas. I’m planning on using this sauce to dip our fresh vegetable: carrots, asparagus, snow peas, and green beans. This is really delicious that I can’t wait for the family to taste it.
Thanksgiving is over and we have a little bit of turkey left and I’m going to make an open face sandwich with mushrooms, gravy, and turkey. I sauteed 2-6 crimini mushrooms in butter until brown. In the skillet add cut up turkey meat and gravy. Toast a piece of bread and cut-off the crust. In a serving platter, place bread and top it with turkey mixture.
It’s 12 P.M. and I need to clean the turkey, wash and let it dry before I do the prep work. In the meantime I can go for a swim and just relax before I start preparing the turkey. This year I am preparing the way Ina Gartner, Tyler Florence and my version in preparing the Roast Turkey.
What a wonderful way to begin my day. Swimming first thing this morning, nice cup of coffee and lunch with Mom at Va de Vi Bistro and Wine Bar to celebrate my birthday. Nice cold day and I think it’s going rain late this afternoon. I love days like this when I get to bundle up, wear my favorite scarf and walk around a bit.
I just had to share with you that today I finally flipped my first omelet.
Who doesn’t like meat with sauce….imagine meat bone in and plenty of sauce that you can either serve with mash potatoes or dip your bread in the sauce. Costco shopping to me is an adventure, you never know what will find in the different tasting booths set-up to entice the consumer in one of the many new products available temporarily in the store. During this visit, I noticed they have lamb shank and it’s one of my favorite type of meat, serves two.
I have been eating the wonderful Turkey Meatloaf for two days now; it’s time to have a good hearty soup. I decided to stop at 99 Ranch and try Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup. The woman at the counter highly recommended this soups because it’s spicy and apparently a lot of people order this soup. You can’t beat the price $6.75 for a big container and there will be left-overs for sure.
An elaborate, refreshing dessert, is a favorite summer treat in the Philippines. Halo-halo is Tagalog for “mix-mix,” has various boiled sweet mung beans, garbanzo and white beans, plus shaved ice, coconut, evaporated milk, colored gelatin, ube (sweet potato), jackfruit, two flavors of ice cream and caramel flan; served cold in a tall glass or bowl. Optional ingredients include sugar palm fruit (kaong), sweet potato, mango, avocado, kidney beans, tapioca, melon, corn, corn, star apple, grated cheese, and corn flakes.
I will prepare Carbonara but it’s a little too rich and wanted to make something similar. I will make an easy version of Carbonara by browning Applewood bacon, a dash of pepper flakes, Barilla Plus Spaghetti, chopped Italian parsley, freshly grated Pecorino Romano cheese and egg yolk.
I really love this recipe because it is such a versatile dish. This time I will make it with pasta. I have a batch ready in the fridge all the time. When I want to snack on something healthy I just toast a piece of Pain Pascal bread and top it with Wild Mushroom mixture. This pasta dish is going to be so good and I can’t wait to prepare it. A nice glass of chardonnay, hot crusty French bread, and a bowl of pasta is what I’m going to have for dinner tonight. I can’t believe I waited so long to prepare this. So good!!!
